How much does CCTV installation cost in Melbourne?
There is no single reliable installed price. Camera count, cable access, building height, recorder capacity and the night-time features you need all affect the Quote. Tell us about the property and we will price the actual installation.
How many security cameras does my home need?
Four cameras can be a useful starting point for a smaller property, but the right number depends on entrances, side access, driveway, garden and the detail you need at each position. We plan coverage before confirming a count.
Can I view my security cameras on my phone?
Yes, with a supported recorder, app and network setup. We configure access and show you how to view live and recorded footage. Remote viewing needs a working internet connection at the property and on your phone.
Do CCTV cameras need an internet connection?
A suitable local recorder can continue recording on the property without an internet connection, provided the cameras, recorder and power are working. Remote viewing, app alerts and software updates need a connection.
Can I record without monthly cloud fees?
Many network video recorder systems keep footage locally without a mandatory cloud recording subscription. Storage duration depends on drive size, resolution, frame rate and recording settings; optional cloud services may have separate charges.
Are Hikvision security cameras reliable?
Hikvision offers a wide range of professional cameras. Reliability and useful footage depend on the model, correct placement, recording equipment, network, power and maintenance. We specify the equipment against your property rather than promising the same result from every model.
Do security cameras work at night?
Yes, when the camera and lighting suit the scene. Infrared generally gives black-and-white footage. Supported ColorVu or hybrid-light models can produce colour footage with enough available or built-in white light; complete darkness does not create colour detail by itself.
How long does CCTV installation take?
The time varies with camera count, cable routes, building construction and access. We confirm the scope and installation schedule in your Quote rather than promising a fixed duration before seeing the property.
Can NorthTech upgrade my existing CCTV system?
Yes, after checking the existing cameras, recorder, cabling, network and app access. Some parts may be reusable; compatibility and the condition of the installation determine what is practical.
Do you install CCTV for shops and small businesses?
Yes. We plan coverage, recording and access for small commercial properties as well as homes. A business may also need its own signage, workplace and privacy processes.
Can security cameras connect to my existing alarm?
Sometimes. The alarm and camera models, recorder and available integration path must be checked. We can also assess a compatible Control4 system where a wider smart-home or business setup is planned.
Is CCTV installation legal in Victoria?
CCTV can be installed in Victoria, but camera placement, audio recording, workplace use and handling footage raise legal and privacy obligations. Avoid filming private activities or directing cameras into neighbours’ private spaces. We help plan sensible coverage; obtain legal advice for your particular use.
For placement and Victorian legal context, read Victoria Police’s CCTV guidance and the Surveillance Devices Act 1999.
