Lighting that feels natural to live with.

NorthTech designs smart lighting control for Melbourne homes—from a thoughtful retrofit to a complete panelised system planned with your new build.

Clear wall controls, considered scenes and automation that supports the way each room is actually used.

Lighting scenes

Set the room, not every individual switch.

A scene brings several lighting circuits to their chosen levels together. It can stay focused on lighting or coordinate with compatible blinds, music, climate and security.

  • Arrive home

Bring on the entry, pathway and everyday living lights together, with the rest of the home ready to respond when required.

  • Entertain

Set the kitchen, dining, living and outdoor areas to a considered scene without walking around adjusting every circuit.

  • Goodnight

Turn off the lights the home no longer needs and coordinate supported blinds, doors, entertainment and security from one action.

  • Away

Shut the home down consistently, keep the useful exterior lighting behaviour and make the house easier to check before leaving.

Choose the right foundation

Different homes need different lighting-control designs.

The right answer depends on whether the home is finished, being renovated or still on the plans. NorthTech confirms the practical path before specifying equipment.

Existing homes

Wireless lighting control

Control4 wireless switches, dimmers and keypads can replace selected wall controls without running every lighting circuit back to a new central panel. It is often the practical starting point for a finished home.

New builds and major renovations

Panelised lighting

Lighting circuits return to centralised panels, while the rooms use clean keypads rather than banks of individual switches. It needs early coordination with the electrical design and dedicated equipment space.

Existing control systems

Assessment and integration

Homes with C-Bus, Wiser, DALI, Legrand Netatmo or another control system are assessed before anything is promised. NorthTech documents what is installed and confirms what can be retained, integrated or sensibly upgraded.

Control it naturally

The phone is optional. The room still makes sense.

Smart lighting should make the home easier for family and guests. The wall keypad remains the familiar starting point, while other controls are available when they are useful.

  • Labelled keypads

Clear buttons for rooms and scenes, in finishes chosen to suit the interior.

  • Automatic routines

Time, movement and other home events can trigger useful lighting behaviour.

  • App and touchscreens

Adjust rooms, scenes and schedules from supported interfaces when needed.

Lighting planned as part of the architecture.

Task, feature and exterior lighting can each do their job while the controls present the home as a few understandable rooms and scenes. That coordination begins with the electrical and interior design—not after every switch has already been placed.

How NorthTech approaches it

Design the behaviour before choosing the buttons.

A dependable result comes from planning the rooms, circuits, fittings and controls together, then commissioning them in the finished home.

  1. 1

Begin with the rooms and routines

We work through how each space is used, the lighting layers, the moments worth simplifying and what must remain intuitive for guests.

  2. 2

    Coordinate the control design

NorthTech plans the scenes, keypads, interfaces and automation, then coordinates the required circuits, cabling and equipment locations with the project team.

  3. 3

    Install, program and commission

The system is programmed around the agreed behaviour, tested with the actual light fittings and handed over with clear labels and everyday controls.

  4. 4

Fine-tune after you have lived with it

Scenes and schedules often become clearer once the home is occupied. NorthTech can refine them and continue supporting the system over time.

Common questions

Smart lighting questions, answered plainly.

What is smart lighting control?
Smart lighting control brings selected lights, dimming levels and scenes into a coordinated system. You still have natural wall controls, but one labelled button can set several circuits together and the home can also respond to time, movement or another connected system.
Can smart lighting be installed in an existing Melbourne home?
Yes. Wireless switches, dimmers and keypads can make smart lighting practical in many existing homes without returning every circuit to a central panel. NorthTech first checks the wiring, light fittings, dimming compatibility and the systems already installed.
What is the difference between wireless and panelised lighting?
Wireless lighting places the switching or dimming hardware at the wall control and is often suited to existing homes. Panelised lighting brings the circuits back to central equipment panels and is usually planned during a new build or major renovation. Both can provide labelled keypads, scenes, schedules and app control.
Does smart lighting still work without a phone?
Yes. The wall keypad remains the everyday control. A well-designed system should be comfortable for family members and guests without requiring them to find a phone or open an app.
Can lighting work with blinds, music and security?
Yes, when the connected equipment is compatible. A scene can coordinate lighting with supported blinds, music, climate, doors or security, while keeping the controls understandable. NorthTech confirms the exact integrations during design.
Can NorthTech work with an existing C-Bus, DALI or Netatmo system?
NorthTech can assess existing C-Bus, Wiser, DALI and Legrand Netatmo installations and explain the practical options. What can be retained or integrated depends on the installed hardware, available documentation, condition and required result.
How much does smart lighting cost in Melbourne?
The cost depends on the number of controlled circuits, dimming requirements, keypad finishes, whether the home is complete or under construction, and how lighting connects with the wider smart home. NorthTech prepares an individual design and quote after the scope and existing infrastructure are understood.
Who completes the fixed electrical work?
Fixed electrical work must be completed by an appropriately licensed electrical contractor. NorthTech coordinates the lighting-control design, equipment, programming and commissioning with the electrician and wider project team.
