How to reset a Hikvision password with Hik-Connect

First, check which password you need to reset

A Hikvision recorder has its own admin password. Your Hik-Connect account has a separate sign-in password. The steps below reset the recorder password by using the account that already owns the device in Hik-Connect.

If you cannot sign in to the Hik-Connect app itself, use Forgot Password on the app’s sign-in screen instead. Hikvision will send a verification code to the email address or mobile number registered to that account.

What you need before you start

You need to be at the recorder with its monitor and mouse, and you need a phone signed in to the Hik-Connect account to which the recorder is linked. The recorder must already belong to that account. A shared user may be able to view cameras but is not the device owner.

Hikvision notes that not every device supports every self-service reset method. The choices shown on your recorder depend on its model and software version.

• The recorder, its connected monitor and a working mouse.
• The Hik-Connect app on your phone.
• Access to the Hik-Connect account that owns the recorder.
• A new, unique password that you can store securely.

If you do not have the recorder’s current admin password, or the recorder is not already registered to your own Hik-Connect account, NorthTech will need to attend the property. This cannot be completed safely over the phone or by remote access.

How to reset the Hikvision recorder password

Work through these steps while you are standing at the recorder. The wording may vary slightly between models and app versions.

1. On the recorder’s sign-in screen, select Forgot Password.
2. Choose Verify by Hik-Connect App. The recorder will display a QR code.
3. Open Hik-Connect and confirm that you are signed in to the account that owns this recorder.
4. Open Reset Device Password in Hik-Connect. Depending on the app version, it may appear under Me or under Applications and Basic Tool.
5. Scan the QR code displayed on the recorder. Hik-Connect will show a verification code.
6. Enter that verification code on the recorder and continue.
7. Create and confirm a new recorder password, then sign in with it.

If the Hik-Connect reset does not work

A message saying the current user is not the owner usually means the phone is signed in to a shared Hik-Connect account rather than the account that originally added the recorder. Sign in with the owner account and try again.

If Verify by Hik-Connect App is missing, you do not have the recorder’s admin password, or the recorder is not registered to your Hik-Connect account, stop there. Keep the new access secure

Use a unique password and keep it in a trusted password manager. Do not send the QR code, verification code or new password by email or text. Anyone helping with the reset should not need to keep a copy once the recorder is working again.
