Rekeying

Rekeying: new keys for the locks you already have.

Lost a key, moved into a new home or changed who should have access? Rekeying changes which key operates a suitable existing lock, so the old keys stop working without replacing the lock itself.

Business-hours rekeying starts from $250. We cut the new keys on site, at your property. Our office is open Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm, and Saturday, 8am–12pm. Urgent locksmith callouts are available 24/7; call for availability and pricing outside business hours.

What we do

When rekeying makes sense.

Rekeying usually follows a change in who holds, or might hold, a key. These are the situations where it is worth asking.

  • You have moved into a new home

You cannot know who still has a key. Rekeying means the keys held by previous owners, tenants and tradespeople no longer work.

  • A key has been lost or stolen

If a lost key could be matched to your address, rekeying removes that risk without waiting to see whether the key turns up.

  • Staff, tenants or contractors have changed

A tenancy ending or a staff member leaving is a good moment to change which keys work. For many doors, a master key system may suit better.

  • What it costs

Business-hours rekeying starts from $250. Call us with the number and type of locks and we will talk through the options.

A considered approach

Rekey or replace?

Rekeying is often the simpler answer when a lock is in good condition and the concern is who holds a key. A worn or damaged lock may call for repair or replacement instead, and we explain which option fits the hardware and the risk.

Keys are cut on site, at your property. If many doors or people are involved, ask us about a master key system or a restricted-key arrangement.

Common questions

How much does rekeying cost?
Business-hours rekeying starts from $250. Call NorthTech with the number and type of locks and we will talk through the options. Ask for after-hours pricing if the work is urgent.
What is the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?
Rekeying changes which key operates the lock you already have. Replacing swaps the lock itself. Rekeying can be enough when the lock is in good condition; a worn or damaged lock may need repair or replacement.
Do you cut the new keys on site?
Yes. Keys are cut on site, at your property. We do not offer key cutting at the office.
